Oxygen Filters in Aerospace

Removing contamination from aerospace oxygen streams is essential to mitigating possible combustion.  Oxygen filters are used in aerospace applications to remove particulate from oxygen rich gas systems.  Oxygen filters are also used to protect downstream components such as valve and regulators.

Removing particulate not only protects downstream instruments and components, but it reduces the likelihood of ignition.  Oxygen is typically delivered at high pressures.  “IEST-STD-CC1246E defines cleanliness levels for various components”

Metals such as stainless steel and aluminum will autoignite at most working pressures.  Brass and monel are commonly used as they can operate above autoignition pressures.  Filters are tested to ASTM G-175 Phase 2 ignition testing.  Filters are also cleaned to ASTM G93-03 standards.

We offer welded inline oxygen filters that have no seals, threaded inline oxygen filters that do include a seal and replaceable filter element and oxygen tee filters.

The 20M Series is a mini in-line oxygen filter that is offered in monel and is completely welded.  These filters are ideal for 1/8″ to 1/4″ lines, up to 6,000 psi) where compactness is essential.  These filters are used for aerospace oxygen ignition and breathing air applications.

20M

The 20BT Series is the brass version and includes a threaded housing so that the filter element inside can be replaced.  The 20BT is rated for 3,000 psi and is similarly offered in 1/8″ and 1/4″.  O-Ring materials include Buna, Viton, EPR, Teflon, Kalrez and Teflon Encapsulated Viton.

The 20MT is the monel version of the 20BT and is rated for 6,000 psi.

The 25 Series is a larger mini inline oxygen filter that features a threaded housing with a fluted 10 micron sintered bronze filter element.  Connection size options include 1/8″, 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″.  O-Ring material options include Viton and Teflon.  Housing options include brass and monel with a pressure rating of 6,000 psi.  The 25 Series is widely used in aerospace oxygen service for both manned space flight and breathing air applications.

The 30 Series is an inline filter with a fluted 10 micron sintered bronze filter element.  Connection size options include 1/4″, 3/8″ and 1/2″.  O-Ring material options include Viton and Teflon.  Housings are machined from brass with a pressure rating of 6,000 psi.

The 50 Series a Brass Tee-Type oxygen filter that allows for easy removal of the sintered bronze filter element without having to disconnect the housing from the piping.  Connection size options include 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″ and 3/4″.  O-Ring material options include Viton and Teflon.  Housings are machined from brass with a pressure rating of 6,000 psi.
